 | 2005 -- An Oakland, Michigan, dog named Arnold Palmer is awarded the
Michigan Veterinary Medical Association's Therapy
Companion Animal of the Year. The yellow lab works with children
suffering from neuromuscular disorders such as cerebral palsy. "Arnie
is happiest when he's working at the hospital," says his handler, Kay
Neslage. "Some of Arnie's patients are not able to speak or pet Arnie,
so he hops up on their nap table and lies next to them. He's been known
to sneak in a little kiss while they are not looking. He speaks with a
soft bark that always gets a giggle that takes away the fear or pain
for a time."
